About Korean Folk Painting

Korean folk painting, also known as Minhwa, is a traditional form of Korean art that dates back to the Goryeo Dynasty(918-1392).

Minhwa paintings are not simply decorative. In many Asian cultures, art is often believed to bring good fortune, prosperity, and other positive energies to the viewer or owner.

This belief is reflected in these paintings depicting symbolic elements that index variegated emotions, ranging from happiness, anger, love, delight in quotidian life, and to a simple desire for a prosperous and happy life.
